Frequently Asked Questions

What is electronic fingerprinting?

Electronic fingerprinting uses a live scan machine to capture fingerprints digitally, rather than using traditional ink and paper. These fingerprints are then submitted electronically to the appropriate state or federal agency for processing, ensuring faster and more accurate results.

Do I need an appointment for fingerprinting?

Yes, appointments are required to ensure efficient service. Contact us to schedule your appointment at a time and location that works best for you.

What do I need to bring to my fingerprinting appointment?

To complete your fingerprinting, please bring the following:

  • A valid, government-issued photo ID (e.g., Driver’s License, Passport, Military ID)

  • Your ORI Number (provided by your employer or regulatory agency)

  • Any additional documentation required by your employer or agency (e.g., OCA Number for DCF-related checks)

How long does the fingerprinting process take?

The process typically takes 5-10 minutes, depending on the quality of your fingerprints and the information provided.

Can I get a copy of my background check?

No, Blue Line Mobile Fingerprinting does not provide copies of background checks. Your results are sent directly to your employer or licensing agency, and it is their discretion to share a copy with you.

How long does it take to receive fingerprinting results?

Results are usually processed within 3-5 business days. However, processing times may vary depending on the agency handling your submission.

Does the FBI still accept hard card fingerprint submissions?

No, the FBI no longer accepts hard card fingerprint submissions. All fingerprint submissions must now be completed electronically. This ensures faster processing and greater accuracy for background checks.

What is an ORI Number (Originating Agency Identifier Number) & why is it important?

An ORI Number is a unique code assigned to your employer or regulatory agency to identify where your fingerprint results should be sent. Blue Line Mobile Fingerprinting cannot select or provide this number for you – it must come directly from your employer or agency.

Using the correct ORI Number is critical. If you provide an incorrect ORI Number or fail to provide one, your fingerprint results will not be processed or sent to the appropriate agency. Be sure to confirm the correct ORI Number with your employer or agency and bring it with you to your appointment.

What happens if I provide incorrect information, such as the wrong ORI Number?

It’s critical to provide accurate information, including the correct ORI Number, as this determines where your fingerprint results are sent. If incorrect information is submitted, your results may not be processed or sent to the appropriate agency. Please double-check all details before your appointment. Blue Line is not responsible for incorrect ORI numbers.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept all major credit cards and cash. Personal checks are not accepted.

Why do fingerprinting fees vary?

Fees are determined by the state and federal agencies processing your fingerprints. Changes in legislation or agency requirements may result in fee adjustments.

Can I cancel or get a refund after my fingerprints are submitted?

Once fingerprints are submitted, refunds cannot be issued. Please ensure all information is accurate before submission, as changes cannot be made after the process begins.
